1954

The Wedding of Frank Marshal and Cicely Cook at Mapperley Church. After their marriage they lived at No 1 The Limes, Mapperley.

Cicely was the daughter of Flo and Harry Cook of 3 The Limes, she had a sister Hazel and a brother John. In latter years Frank and Cicely lived on High Lane East, West Hallam.

1954

Another photo of Frank and Cicely’s wedding with my sister Barbara and me.

Cicely was a person I was always frightened of as a little boy as she had bright red nail polish on her nails. Hence, I was not too pleaded to be at her wedding. When she came to Mapperley Farm I always told my Grandmother to “Tell Cicely to go home”

The guests from Left to Right – Molly Gilman (Hill), Gladys Hill (Reader), Barbara Hill, Selina Watchorn (Reader (Brailsford))
and me Charles Hill still as you can see not cooperating.

The interesting person on this photo is Selina Watchorn. She was my Grandmother and was the cousin of Flo Cook's mother.
She was born Selina Brailsford who lived in Derby and she married William Reader (a grocers assistant in 1909)
sadly he was killed on September 9th 1918 In Flanders. She eventually remarried Tom Watchorn who sadly dropped dead on a Felix bus coming back to Mapperley Lane end after watching Derby County play. That was about 1949.

During the war Selina and my Mother Gladys lived at The Pond House, Shipley and prior to that lived at 41 Mapperley
(it's the corner house just above old Mapperley Chapel).
