Charles Hill and Mary Hill of Mapperley Farm
The front cover of “The Diaries of Henry Hill of Slackfields Farm” Charles Hill was born on 4th June 1884 at Slackfields Farm in Horsley. He was the son of Henry Hill (Formerly of Bumpmill, Shirland) and Elizabeth Else (formerly of Dethick Mill, Lea). Mary Hill (nee Skevington was born on 22nd August 1891 at Jesse Farm Morley. She was the daughter of Arthur Isaac Skevington (formerly of Rednall, Worcester) and Sarah Elizabeth Hunt (of Morley). Charles Hill Took over Mapperley Farm in I think 1909 and was married to Mary Skevington on 29th January 1913. Mary Hill died on 17th February 1966 but Charles Hill remained at the farm until its sale in April of 1968. Charles Hill then moved to High Lane Central West Hallam in August of that year. He died on 24th October 1972. Charles and Mary Hill had three sons and one daughter They were:-
Not sure but I think the farmers at Mapperley Farm prior to Charles Hill in 1909 were either the Cartwright’s or the Cameron’s. Grandchildren of Charles and Mary Hill Although both were married both Mary (Molly) Hill and Joseph Hill had no children. Henry Hill had a daughter Barbara born in 1944 and a son Charles (me) born in 1951. Barbara lives in Holymoorside and Charles lives in Crich Charles Hill had a son Matthew and daughter Katherine but I am not sure on their DOB, they are certainly a lot younger than Barbara and me. They both live in the London area. To date all four of Charles and Mary’s children are still alive.
