March 1904

Miss Lamb was praised for her excellent school concert held on Feb 10th and 11th Mrs Miller Mundy came down (from Shipley Hall) to present prizes.

April 1904

Cricket Concert
One of the best Concerts given in Mapperley was held on Friday 8th April, in aid of the Cricket Club. The programme began with a pianoforte solo by Mr Downing, some charming songs by Mrs A Pounder and Miss Lamb and Mrs T Watchorn scored a distinct success with her recitation. The male voices were represented by Mr T Derbyshire, Mr T Watchorn, Mr H Cook, and Mr Dore and Messrs Webster and Shelton found great favour with their duet.

May 1904

Confirmations took place at Heanor Parish Church with over 100 candidates of which Mapperley numbered 13.

Mapperley Church Institute

An influential meeting of Churchwardens, Sidesmen and others was held on 29th April, to discuss the question of erection and equipment of a room for the above and other purposes. The room would be one primarily available for all Church purposes and also to be used in the winter as a Village Club; as a Reading Room, for Games, Smoking Concerts, and Dances etc. It would also be used for Parochial Tea and Concerts. For the Sunday School and for all Social purposes.

It could also be used in the summer months as a Cricket Pavilion. Mr Mundy offered £100 towards this and the Church would raise the remaining £100 required, Mr Mundy generously gave some ground for use by the Cricket Club.

  • May 4th – Hannah Isam, aged 59 years

June 1904

A Garden Fete would be taking place on 27th July to raise funds for the Mapperley Church Institute. The cricket ground was not quite ready for use but meanwhile Mr Cameron has kindly placed his field at the disposal of the club, and has given assistance with his horse and water cart in preparing the pitch.

July 1904

The Sunday School Festival was held on Sunday 26th June with a special Flower Service in the afternoon.

August 1904

The Sunday School Treat was held on 13th July in the school where they all enjoyed a tea, followed by a game of cricket in a field loaned by Mr Durow. Then the Mapperley Colliery Ambulance Prize Band gave a large selection of music, concluding with dances. It concluded at 9.30pm and headed by the band, a procession followed them back to the school where nuts and sweets were ready.

  • July 30th, 1904 – Harry Durow aged 4 years

September 1904

Mapperley Church Institute - Garden Fete and sale of work in the Vicarage gardens on Wednesday 27 July to raise funds towards the Institute which would be opened on October 4th

October 1904

Church Institute – the opening will be postponed for a time.

November 1904

Mapperley Church Institute opening is confirmed as Wednesday 23rd November. Mr & Mrs Miller Mundy have consented to be there to open the new institute.

  • Oct 2nd, 1904 – Ruby Norah, daughter of George Edward and Charlotte Hawley.
Burial
  • Oct 25, 1904 – Mary Burrows aged 70 years.
Parishioners were asked to observe that at least 48 hours notice is required to be given to the Incumbent and the Clark of the date and time of a funeral.

It should be observed also that the freehold of the Churchyard is vested in the Incumbent; that it rests with him to determine the burial plot and he has control over the monuments and their inscriptions.
