A tribute was made to Frank in the magazine. Frank was born and grew up in Mapperley. He had 3 brothers and 3 sisters and for many years lived at Woodside Cottage at Park Hall. He married Florence in 1938 and they celebrated their diamond wedding in January this year (19980). They had two sons, Raymond and Aubrey. Gardening was his passion and he planted hundreds of daffodil bulbs under the trees at the top of Mapperley Lane. He was a true gentle man.

September 1998

A Thanksgiving Service was held to remember those who had passed away over the last year.

The following are words written and read by Laura Cook, age 7 years, about her Gran Muriel Durow (09.01.96) and Granddad (13.05.98)

What I remember of my Gran and Granddad
My Gran was lovely
She used to read to me
She taught me to make pies and cakes
And we ate them for our tea
She used to play games with me
She used to play at “shops”
We had a really lovely time
I loved my Gran a lot.
My Granddad had a wheelchair
And on the back I’d ride
Once he got stuck in some mud
And was helped by joggers passing by
He used to wear a yellow cap
And when he saw people he knew
He used to give a great big smile
And then he’d say “how-do”
When I got up in a morning
Into Granddads bedroom I’d go
He’d give me a sweet or biscuit –
It was our secret, my mum didn’t know!
I loved my Gran and Granddad
