Memories of Stanley Village by George Stevens

George was born in Stanley Village where he spent his childhood. He started work at around 14 years of age and served in the Second World War. He later moved to Stanley Common. George had a brother 'Adge' and two sisters Elsie and Doris.  'Tin Lurky!  Tin Bath and First In!' was published around 1983 and refers to village life during the 1920's after the First World War, and the Miners' Strike of 1926. George used the pseudonym of Stan Leigh (Stanley)
