Names

Some miners at West Hallam pit. C  late 1940s or early 1950s. The second man from the left is Ted Yates of Stanley. On the far right is Joe Hobley, the last manager of the pit, whilst next to him is George Pearson, who was later in charge of recruitment at the pit. George Pearson also worked at Mapperley Pit and was the husband of Edie Pearson


Alf Farm

Members of the Mapperley Colliery Company Horticultural Club. After their society meeting held at  the Royal Oak, Park Hall. The photograph was taken outside Park Farm. (No date given). The group held regular meetings and shows at the collieries Memorial Hall (Station Road) West Hallam. This included an Annual Horticultural show displaying of all their garden produce. Prizes were given to the best classes in show for flowers and vegetables.

This was a well supported event and the produce was auctioned off after the show. Money going to a selected charity. A bird group was later introduced showing off Poultry,  Pigeon's and Canaries at these shows.This all came under "Sport and Pastimes" Group of Activities.
